Aaah…Summer! It’s a time when things slow down. When the temperature rises, we need to conserve our energy and take it easy. We can give ourselves permission to spend time in nature; time for lazing about on the grass in the shade of a tree or sprawled out on a sunny, sandy beach. Longer days allow us to have more time for a picnic dinner in the park or a stroll along the shore at sunset. Children are enjoying a break from studies and school. They are now focused on learning how to paddle a canoe or swim or some other skill or adventure. We vacation and we stay-cation. We stay up later to enjoy more of life. Summer is a time of abundance.
Summer is also a time of opportunity. The natural rhythm of the season allows us time to explore. And to grow. Remember when you were a young child? Remember how things changed when you returned to school after Summer? You probably needed new shoes because your feet had grown while your footwear consisted of flip-flops or nothing at all. Most likely, you were taller. Some of us might have been fatter or thinner. Some returned with stories of far-away places or new friendships made at camp. Maybe you returned with more confidence because you knew something you didn’t know before Summer.
Every year, we get about 92 days of Summer. A lot can be accomplished or experienced in 92 days! Time is getting shorter. What are you doing with your days?
There is a really wonderful quote from Jac Vanek, who says: “You are the books you read, the films you watch, the music you listen to, the people you meet, the dreams you have, the conversations you engage in. You are what you take from these. You are the sound of the ocean, the breath of fresh air, the brightest light and the darkest corner. You are a collective of every experience you have had in your life. You are every single second of every single day. So drown yourself in a sea of knowledge and existence. Let the words run through your veins and let the colors fill your mind until there is nothing left to do but explode. There are no wrong answers. Inspiration is everything. Sit back, relax, and take it all in. Now, go out and create something.”
