“The basis of all healing is a change in belief.” ~ Thomas Troward

We all have our own unique beliefs. It’s a personal system which has been put in place over years of experience and perceptions. Beliefs are stories we’ve been told. Beliefs are thoughts that have been repeated over and over. Unfortunately, some of our beliefs are false. They are the result of negative thoughts or emotions. We become attached to these negative thoughts each time we repeat them. We reinforce our belief in their truth. Sometimes, we even embellish them to make ourselves feel more wounded, more outraged, more saddened…worse!

You may hold the negative belief that you have no control over your life. But that is a false belief. You always have control over what you are thinking. Right now in this moment. Your thoughts may come and go in a constant stream of consciousness, but you make the choice about what thought to focus upon.

If something in your life needs healing – your physical health, your financial wealth – perhaps you have focused your thoughts upon lack.  Lack of money, lack of health, lack of happiness. How about if you begin to focus your thoughts on well-being instead of sickness? Fitness instead of “feeling fat”? How about thinking about prosperity instead of poverty? It is far more powerful to be “for” something than to be “against” something. A proven way to help you to choose the positive perspective is to write affirmations.

An affirmation is a positive choice or goal, written in the first person, present tense format. Always affirm a desire, not a “should”. A simple affirmation like, “I enjoy regular exercise,” can change your motivation and boost your success. When you write, “All is well in my world”, you begin to believe it is so. Muhammad Ali reinforces the power of affirmations when he said, “It’s the repetition of affirmations that leads to belief. And once that belief becomes a deep conviction, things begin to happen.”

When you make the choice to change the way you think about things, the things you think about will change. When you choose to focus on new thoughts and possibilities, you begin to change your beliefs about the way things are.  When your beliefs change, you release limitations. You invite new experiences into your life. A new way of being begins and healing happens.

I invite you to make the choice to change one thought about the way things are. That one step is your power. Consider the ways things are right now in your life at the beginning of 2019. If you continue to think the same thoughts, you will end up in the same place in 2020. Or it could be a better place. Or it could be in a worse place. You get to choose what to believe it will be. Choose your thoughts. Choose your life.
