Are you familiar with the work of Cleve Backster? Author of the book, Primary Perception, he was a researcher who spent more than 35 years studying biocommunication, or how plant, animal and human cells communicate with each other. He found that there were three factors involved in this communication: real intent, attunement and spontaneity.
Backster wrote about a defining moment in his research that happened in 1966 when he began to monitor the Dracaena Fragrans plant in his lab by using polygraph equipment. A former CIA interrogator, he was familiar with the equipment and its ability to recognize subtle changes in the subject’s emotions. Attaching electrodes to a leaf, he began to think about how to create a surge in electrical activity in the plant. Knowing that intense emotions create electrical activity in humans, he suddenly imagined burning the leaf. As this idea entered his mind, the polygraph pen shot to the top of the chart. Intrigued by the extreme reaction on the part of the plant, he pondered the possibility that the plant was detecting his intention. He left the room to retrieve a book of matches. Upon his return, he noted the plant was still showing the high level reaction. He decided to remove the threat by returning the matches to their original place in the desk. At this point, the chart reflected a downward trend as the plant began to calm down!
It’s interesting to note that when Backster tried the experiment again, it did not produce the same results. The plant apparently could sense the difference between a real threat and an artificial one. Scientists believe that the further development of quantum physics may help guide us to understand this biofield that communicates emotional intent between living things.
We are not that different from plants. We need sun, air and water to survive. We can learn from Backster’s research. By applying three simple guidelines, you can achieve a better level of communication with your body. When you communicate positive, loving thoughts to the cells of your body, they respond with healing.
- Engage your body with love and compassion. Allow feelings of gratitude for all your body does for you. Each cell of your body is a microcosm of the macrocosm that is you. Each cell of your body experiences your emotions. When you think positive thoughts, you feed positive emotions to your cells. Remember all emotions are either based on love or based on fear. Be in attunement with your body. Think love.
- Begin to engage in mental conversations with your body. Talk to it like a friend. Build trust. Have faith. Believe that it is possible to overcome any pain, discomfort or ailment. When you are comfortable and at ease living in your body, there is no longer any need to have a condition of dis-ease. The mind-body connection is real. Healing begins in the mind. Set the intention.
- Emotions are the fuel of creation. Nothing happens without desire and anticipation. When you engage in conversation with your body, use a variety of different thoughts and words that will elicit a strong emotional response. For example, instead of thinking, “I am free of pain” think, “What if I am free of pain.” Notice the difference in feeling. Notice that “what if” elevates your emotional connection to the statement. Use spontaneity to boost your emotional fuel.
