An unknown author asks the question “Who Am I?” At the end of the riddle, the author answers the question. Consider the description. Look for the clues.

“I am your constant companion. I am your greatest helper or heaviest burden.

I will push you onward or drag you down to failure. I am completely at your command.

Half the things you do might just as well be turned over to me

and I will be able to do them quickly and correctly.

I am easily managed— you must merely be firm with me.

Show me exactly how you want something done and after a few lessons I will do it automatically.

I am the servant of all great people and, alas, of all failures, as well.

Those who are great, I have made great.

Those who are failures, I have made failures.

I am not a machine,

though I work with all the precision of a machine plus the intelligence of a person.

You may run me for profit or run me for ruin— it makes no difference to me.

Take me, train me, be firm with me, and I will place the world at your feet.

Be easy with me and I will destroy you.

Who am I?

I am HABIT!”

Do you agree with that answer? I do… but my answer to the question is… your subconscious mind, the 88% of your mind that controls your habits, your behavior and your motivation. In essence, if your subconscious mind doesn’t want to do something, it doesn’t get done. If your subconscious mind is in the habit of doing things, it will continue to do them. When you are in the habit of exercising every day, your subconscious mind makes certain that you will do that. You want to do it. It feels good to do it and it feels wrong to miss it. Your subconscious mind is programmed to the habit. Or maybe you have made a habit of not exercising. It’s easy. It’s comfortable. But it is not a good habit.

Those who are great, I have made great. Those who are failures, I have made failures.” Your subconscious mind creates your success and your failures, depending on what you believe. If you are in the habit of failing, it may be because you don’t believe you will succeed. Your subconscious beliefs can hinder your success. You may hesitate or procrastinate and miss out on opportunities. You may self-sabotage because you don’t believe you are worthy. Do your habits promote success? Or failure?

I am completely at your command.”  You can choose to use “your greatest helper” to promote your success and happiness. Or you can choose to use it against your own wellbeing. You make a choice by telling yourself. Your conscious mind directs and commands your subconscious to action where it will do your bidding “automatically.” Your subconscious mind is extremely adaptable. It can be directed to make different choices and programmed to follow through on those choices. Your conscious mind can direct your subconscious mind to make better, new and improved habits. “Take me, train me, be firm with me, and I will place the world at your feet.”

Would you like to access the power of your subconscious mind to create new habits and maintain them? I can help you to connect with “your greatest helper.” I know the way. And I can teach you.
